Travel Tuesday

zurich5

Some of you asked if I plan to post more about our trip to Germany and down the Rhine River. I’m sorry to have started with a few posts, then abruptly stopped.

Zurich2

The problem with being away for a couple of weeks and then getting home and blogging about the trip, is that I actually have recipes I want to post and other events that come up, such as the 7th Blogiversary.

Zurich 3

My solution is a new feature called Travel Tuesday. This way, I’ll be able to share pretty photos and fun travel info without allowing the travel posts to hijack the entire blog.

Zurich train station

So we’ll pick up here…

We ditched the rental car in Zurich, Switzerland, which is where we met up with our land tour group. These were people, who like us, signed up for the optional tour through Switzerland before joining the other 136 passengers for the Scenic Rhine River Cruise.

There were only 29 of us on the land tour. I think that eight of us were from the States, all the rest were from Down Under; two from Tasmania, three from New Zealand, and the rest from Australia.

down under

Hopefully the Tasmanians and Kiwis (what a great name!) won’t mind, but when I say the Aussies, I am referring to all the “Down Unders.”

And here is the main thing I want to say about the Aussies… I love them!!! They are the nicest people in the world. I know that Canadians are said to hold that title and I’ve never met a Canadian I didn’t like, but these people are A+++!

I’ve always wanted to go to Australia, New Zealand, and now I’m adding Tasmania to that dream … after having the privilege to travel with these people, I now desperately want to go!

up and down steps

Here are the 29 of us, happily following our Swiss tour guide, Patricia, up and down the steps and all around Zurich.

Zurich chef

Zurich was perfectly lovely and it was there that I saw edelweiss for the first time ever.

Edelweiss

It is so very soft and velvety. The texture and touch of it reminded me of fresh sage leaves. All of us were humming that beautiful little song …

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

Zurich boats

On our way out, we stopped on the other side of Lake Zurich so we could take one last look at the beautiful city.

Next stop for the Awesome Aussies and us … Lucerne.

Come on back next Tuesday.

Can I please come to New Zealand with you?

We, too, traveled with Scenic a couple of years ago. There were 3 Americans on board – the rest mostly Aussies with a few Brits and Canadians. Loved the Scenic tour – we traveled from Amsterdam to Budapest – I have the same pix of a long table of 8 – only the faces are different! Cheers and thanks for sharing!
