eagle-eyed

Yesterday, I received an email from eagle-eyed reader, Jennifer, after she spotted something unusual in one of the photos from my New & Improved Zucchini Bread post.

Can you see what it is that she spotted and had a question about?

She wanted to know what this silver tool is and wondered if it had something to do with the way the eggs looked as though they had been cracked open?

Yes, it is called an Egg Cracker Topper and yes, it easily and cleanly removes the top of the shell from an egg. You can buy one for less than $8 on Amazon.

It is crazy simple to use, just hold the egg in one hand, set the device on top of the egg with the other, and lift up on the spring-top “hammer,” let go once or twice and the top of the eggshell lifts easily off.

I’ll be dying the empty eggshells today, placing them in egg cups and filling some with egg salad for Easter brunch, and filling the others with little flower bouquets for the Easter table.

I hope we get to see a picture of your finished eggs!

Hi Ann, Yes, tomorrow I will do just that.

Going to purchase one today. What did you use to clean the inside of the egg to make it reusable?

Hi, first I rinsed it out well with hot water, rubbing my finger along the inside bottom to remove the skin-like lining. Then I filled each eggshell with hot soapy water and soaked for a while, then gently washed inside with a bottle brush, rinsed with hot running water and let drain to air dry.
