I love Trader Joe’s!
Indeed we love TJ’s! Just got back from a peach run in Colorado–I took bags of TJ stuff for the relatives to split since they don’t have them up there. By the way, Linda, I heard from sis-in-law Dot that she had a long chat with you at the beginning of the summer and you were wonderfully helpful to her regarding teaching kid’s cooking classes THANKS. I know she appreciated it. 🙂
Linda, thanks for sharing both links. When TJ’s first opened at Town & Country in 1993, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it, but within a year or two it become my favorite grocery and has remained so for the past 17 years. We do our family shopping there first and then supplement with additional purchases from Fresh & Easy and the Downtown Phoenix Public Market. It’s hard to go back to big, traditional groceries with 17 brands of chick peas after being spoiled by the more manageable size and lighthearted approach of Trader Joe’s.
Hi David, love your PHX Rail Food blog… so informative, just wish I had the opportunity to use the rail, and hence the blog, in real life more! As for TJ’s and 1993… did you know that the first TJ’s, outside of CA, opened in Sun City in 1993?!? At that time, I was on the board of the Phx Chapter of the now defunct American Institute of Wine and Food (AIWF) and we had an event built around the grand opening there – it was a BIG deal to get that first TJ’s. Sadly, it is now closed. A new store opened nearby in Surprise. Here’s a link to an article about it. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/1127gl-nwvtrader1130.html
