going to the birds
The fruit on my fig tree is ripening just in time…. for me to be out of town… and unable to harvest any. No matter, the birds are flocking to the tree by the dozens and feasting on them.
I don’t have a clue what kind of bird this is, but every day, all throughout the day, there are between 10 and 20 of these black birds chowing down on my figs.
In the process, they knock down more figs, and then the quail and bunnies join in on the buffet.
I can’t get close enough to snap a photo of the quail and bunnies near the figs. The only way I get any pictures of them is from inside, through my kitchen window.
They are so darn cute that I don’t even care if they eat my grass and flowers.
If you can identify the blackbirds, please tell me what they are, I’d love to know.
Oh, and another winged wonder that has been hanging out in our yard these last couple of weeks – a flock of wild parakeets! Every morning when I go out to water the potted plants, I can hear them singing and then I catch a glimpse of them before they get spooked and fly off. I was able to get a quick blurry shot of this one on my back wall. I was telling Connor how fun I thought it would be to catch one and try to train it and he said, “Mom, if you want a peach-faced lovebird so badly, why don’t you just go to the pet store and buy one?”
I said, “Oh, Connor! Where is the fun in that!?? And besides, I honestly don’t want one, you know, birds are so messy!”
He rolled his eyes at me and walked away. Sometimes, that boy just doesn’t get me. 🙂

I am available to pick figs:) Keep the birds away!
The blackbirds are starlings – they come in great flocks. The others are actually love birds.
