CA to TX – day one
Dave and I arrived in San Francisco on Wednesday night. Marissa picked us up from the airport and we went directly to her apartment to help with some cleaning (me) and spackling (Dave). After that, we spent our last night (at least for a while) at our favorite Pacific Heights hotel, The Hotel Drisco.
Bright and early on Thursday morning we hit the ground running.
Dave and Jeff went off to pick up the Pensky moving truck, while Marissa and I took apart the bed and kept on cleaning.
Once the boys returned, the real work began. Marissa and Dave went up and down two flights of stairs dozens of times with boxes and furniture, while Jeff packed it all into the truck and I … continued to clean the apartment.
In fact, I cleaned it so well that they got back their full $3000 deposit, plus interest! “Good job, Mom!”
After 3 1/2 hours, we were ready to roll. Dave and I went back to the hotel to shower and pack, then we walked down the steep hill, one last time, to the apartment and it was finally time to say goodbye to San Francisco.
Bittersweet!
Jeff drove off in the truck to go back to Penske and get a trailer hitched on and Dave followed in Marissa’s VW Bug. They put the Bug on the trailer and headed off. Meanwhile, Marissa and I drove in Jeff’s car to drop off a few final items at Goodwill and then to Comcast to return their internet and cable devices.
Our driving goal for Thursday was simply to get out of the city and a bit beyond. We drove for about 200 miles, which took over 4 hours for Marissa and me in the car and about 5 hours for the boys in the truck, and met up in Fresno.
I’m typing this at 5:30 Friday morning from my room at a Best Western.
Our destination/stopping point for today? Six hundred miles, to sleep in our beds at home in Scottsdale.
… to be continued…
