awesome blog!!!

There was a fish taco recipe planned for this very spot today, and unless at least 5 of you beg me to put it up, I’m going to scratch it all together. I was originally going to say that at least 15 of you needed to beg, but since I don’t think there will even be 5 beggars, that should suffice. Instead, I have a recipe that is SO MUCH better than any old stinky fish taco. A recipe for laughter. That may be corny and awfully cliche, but true!

OK, you know how I like to be helpful and share with you all the things I love. Well, today I am sharing with you something I more than love. It is something I completely adore. Reading the hysterical posts from this creative, (as you can see for yourself – from that awesome self-portrait above) bright, and “knee-slapping” funny woman, absolutely makes my day. I’ve shared a few of the posts via email with Marissa and with Peggy, and they both agree, Amazing!

I will warn you though, if you have delicate ears, don’t like the use of “bad-language” and excessive sarcasm – well, you may want to pass. Pass it on to a friend who does enjoy those things, that is.  For instance, here is how she describes herself on her Twitter profile:

“Snarky liberal b!%$h and mom of 2 boys, one of whom has autism. Profane & often drunk. Excessively chatty, but it’s all just inane c%*p. Yeah, sorry about that.”

Yes, I have used the *&^% symbols in place of certain profanities for those of you who may be sensitive. Here are a couple little snippets taken directly from Jillsmo’s blog – “Yeah. Good Times.” (with permission) that had me running to the bathroom before I ….. well you get the idea.

As you will note, the Trader Joe’s reference had me hooked from the get-go!  One more quick side-note, Jill does not refer to her two boys by their names, but instead by Child 1 (C1) and Child 2 (C2). By the way, if you do visit her blog, and I highly recommend that you do – the Tag named Child 2 has some of my favorite posts.

napa and radicchio

I am just getting around to using up the remaining radicchio and Napa cabbage from this post. And I’ll be using a favorite dressing that I’ve already told you about as well, so use the link in the ingredient list for the dressing recipe. I used a portion of the greens already for fish tacos and I’ll share that recipe in a few days. Not much more to say, time is short, so I am just happy to get dinner on the table and have time to post the recipe and keep the streak alive… 71 and counting.

civic duty

This is my heads up to you, my faithful followers. My streak of 70 consecutive days of blog posts may about to be coming to an end. Bet you didn’t even know I had a streak going, but look back at the calendars over there on the right, and you’ll see that I did, I mean I do. In fact, I’ve only missed 3 days out of the past 101 days of blog posts. There is a valid reason that the streak is about to be broken…

#pieforMikey

It has been 11 days since the above hashtag* in my post title first appeared on Twitter. It was Friday, August 12, 2011, and the food blogging community came out in full force to support one of their own. I was in Florida at the time, but I witnessed a beautiful and quickly growing phenom. When I returned home, my time was all about preparations for and then posting about, this blog’s 2nd Anniversary Party.  But that hashtag and all it means has not been far from my heart or my thoughts these past days.

I am always on time and hate being late, but for the first time, it has been great to be late. Had I made the Pie For Mikey a week ago, I would not have had a chance to see the outpouring of love from all of the amazing food bloggers out there. It reinforces why I so enjoy blogging on an almost daily basis. So today, 11 days later, I want to share it with you.

First, you must leave this site to watch and listen to this beautiful video… right now, please!  Honestly, don’t press “read more” until you’ve seen the video.

fun birthday party

Last night’s “Blog 2-Year Celebration Cookbook Happy Hour” was a great success and so much fun. Thank you to all the lovely ladies who attended, a few of them are shown here.

One of the many people missing in the photos is Chef Gwen Walters. Unfortunately, in the one photo, she was in, she was nearly unrecognizable… looking very incognito in a baseball cap and with a fan in front of her face. Kind of like a restaurant critic or something…. well that makes sense, she is a restaurant critic, so maybe it was intentional… hmmm?

I’ve mentioned here before that Gwen is the queen of smoothies; she is also the queen of Tweets. So generous with her promotion of others. Last night she tweeted out a picture of the party. Even pictures from her iPhone are better than the ones I take with an actual camera… check this out.

When the guests arrived, this is what greeted them at the front door.

eating out in Jupiter

Chef Tim Lipman in the Leftovers kitchen

While in Jupiter, Florida last week, Chris and Kathy took me to their favorite “sister” restaurants, Food Shack and Leftovers.  The food was some of the most creative, seasonal, colorful, and flavorful I’ve ever had- especially at Leftovers.

We had the privilege of sitting at the bar that looks directly into the kitchen and catching up with the Leftovers chef, Tim Lipman. What a cool guy! I would love for him to come to Les Gourmettes next spring and share his unique creativity and philosophy.  And of course, he’d need to bring all that wonderful fish at his disposal, along too. Barb, we need to talk!

I adore and am fascinated by hummingbirds. They are the bravest and most tenacious little creatures.

eating out

I honestly don’t know how some people do it. How they are able to eat out more than once or twice a week. Sure, we all love to eat from somewhere like SOFIA RESTAURANT every now and again, but I cannot make eating out such a regular occurrence. When I come home from vacation, the first thing I crave is a home-cooked meal and the absolute last thing I want for a week or two is to go out to eat. I know of people who dine in restaurants, carry out, or have delivery more than 7 or 8 times a week.

That said, the three restaurants we dined at in San Francisco were amazing! But I did say “San Francisco”, so what else would you expect… but amazing? I am no restaurant critic. I don’t critique the decor, the location, or even the wait staff. I just know if I am “comfortable” in a space, I’m with people I want to be with, and if I have delicious food – well, then Im happy and I’ve had a good dining experience.

3 beautiful girls – 1 cool house

As I mentioned yesterday, the final couple hours of the road trip were the most challenging. The endless lines of traffic getting onto the Bay Bridge was brutal, especially when you don’t have the “lane changing” abilities you’re used to, while you are in a U-Haul and pulling a trailer. I’m just thankful that I was the passenger and not the driver. Dave has abounding patience and I have… none!
