Our Christmas dessert
I am in Chicago for my niece’s wedding, so there will be no long explanation or story attached, except to say that this pie was a Christmas hit.
Apple-Cranberry Crumble Pie
Crust
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold, cut into small cubes
- 1/4 cup plain, vanilla, or honey yogurt
Filling
- 2 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4-inch thick (I used 4 Granny Smith and 1 Honey Crisp)
- 1 1/4 cups fresh cranberries
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Crumble
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
